Hi, yes unfortunately I have developed a wheat allergy over the past year which just started with itchy feeling in my mouth and tingling around my mouth. So I decided to stop eating it. My health has improved dramatically and I lost 4 stone which Id been struggling to do for years, so clearly had an intolerance to it anyway. Skin prick tests at Guys allergy clinic proved negative but I know my body and it makes me feel ill, so have stayed off it. Jan Masters

Skin prick tests were negative on Paula too Jan.   Seems strange that.

undecidedHi Bob, I have had wheat allergy diagnosed at the same time as my latex allergy. I have been told NOT to avoid wheat totally  as it is in nearly everything, as exposure after removing it from a diet would result in a serious reaction ie  anaphylactic shock. Wheat free foods are available on prescription, e-mail me and I will dig out the companies that make  items on prescription,  Barkat being one of them, look on google, they are ordered as a normal prescription from the chemist. Asda also do a good range. A skin pin prick test would reveal if wheat allergy was present. Regards Sylvia Turner

Hi.
I saw this and know it is an old post, but I also have a wheat intolerance, as does my son.  My son's blood tests come back negative for celiacs or wheat allergy-but he definitely reacts adversely to it, as do I...We both are wheat/gluten free for the last 6 months and have both lost weight and feel so much better,,,clearer thinking, less aches and pains, less raging (for my son) we have not had any anaphylactic results from getting food that was cross-contaminated, but we definitely know when we get something with wheat-my son more than  reacts adversely...and I was dx 10 years ago with Hashimoto's-an autoimmune condition that causes an underactive thyroid and weight gain, ...I was also told the weight gain was almost inevitable and it would be tough to lose....I went to a naturopath (I live in the U.S. and started on a supplement for my thyroid....I am intolerant to iodine, so this is a glandular extract from cows (sounds awful)...but since taking it, I have lost 21 lbs...my goiter is gone and I feel better....the weight loss is form a combo of things I think-the GF diet (which means less carbs) and the thyroid supplement...If possible, and if available, it might be worth it to look in to a nautorpath as the traditonal dr. was not going to put me on any medication until my thyroid petered out itself....despite so many of the other sx I had of underactive thyroid...I am looking forward to getting my bloodwork back since starting this new regimen to see if there are any improvements in other areas...

Hi again Hannah

Will be interesting to see what your blood tests results are on your new regime. Again we have so much in common. I too have put on 3 stone unexplained weight. I am on a little diet with hardly enough intake of food and I also as well as my allergies have salicylates intolerance so I am on a low sal diet so how you can put any weight on with this I do not know. I have unexplained 3 stone weight gain, unexplained high cholesterol, unexplained High Blood Pressure. No one can give me any answers.

I go back to my allergist on 20th August so will ask for a calorie controlled diet. I walk a lot and have just recently been bought a cross trainer and I am using this daily. No weight lost. I am at a loss as what to do next as the endocronologist cant find anything wrong with me they were testing for cushing's disease as they thought I may have that and thankfully I dont have. But apart from the underactive thyroid I dont know would this have put on 3stone + in weight. Mind you it was left untreated for nearly 2 years. Just started tablets recently weeks ago really and dont notice any difference.

Here in UK it is much worse than in the US. Allergies are not taken seriously enough and no-one seems to understand anything about them. I have a wonderful allergist who I do not know what I would do without. I cant praise her enough. She is the one trying to help me by referring me to others to see if they can find out what is going on but so far no luck.

Speak later

Hi Again Teddy,
The thing I find strange is that I am losing the weight without any "diet" whatsoever.  That's why I think it must be a combination of things finally "going right"-but it was not "rapid", as it's been 9 months, and eating foods that are GFCF, but I also eat ghee, coconut milk, olive oil....so it is not "low fat" and I have not increased my activity level much.....I think the thyroid supplement is one thing that has helped...I tried for years to get my OD to give me a supplement-I thought that while I had "WNL" readings on my TSH levels, my thyroid was working overtime to produce those hormones...hence the goiter...and I have sx of underactive thyroid-the hypertension, high cholesterol, intolerance to cold (and in New England-it gets cold!), dry skin, dry hair, brain fog...etc) but he refused to hear it and I gave up asking....then I went to a practitioner who does Muscle Response Testing...that is where I was told about the wheat intolerance, milk intolerance, shellfish allergy and he told me about my thyroid (mind you I was wearing a turtleneck-so he did not see my neck)...so I thought I would see if by following his recommendations, I would feel any better-and I do...and my blood pressure is better than it has been in awhile...waiting for my cholesterol feedback...I have had a long hx with dr's...because of infertility, IBS, TMJ, then the hypertension...after awhile you get sick of going to dr's....not to mention that because my children were deemed "medically fragile" when we got them, we had all their medical issues to sort out-so I kind of put my health on the back burner....but then it kind of forced itself out in front with the food issues-I hate spending all my time "indisposed" because of a stomach problems, pain in my hands /muscles/joints and after seeing the issues with my sons, I began thinking maybe some of my problems were because of food intolerances...and I had started researching about nutrition because my husband has rheumatoid and I have serum negative RA....and diet can greatly affect that...several close family members also have/had cancer-so I researched nutritional approaches there too...so I think it is a big puzzle to sort out and since each of us is unique, our puzzle pieces are not exactly alike-but the process of figuring out "how" they go together is similiar, so that I why I am trying to learn more about this latex issue...I know I react when "touched", and several of the foods I am sensitive too are on that list-but is it the latex or the phenols in them?  And I am not anaphylactic to them-more gastro distress and blistering/burning...and I first saw that reaction with my son...I gave him a drink that had blue dye 1 in it...he drank it-no problem...but about 30 minutes later, when he peed in his pull up, he blistered everywhere the urine touched...he has the same reaction to petroleum jelly....If that is what it does to your outsides, imagine what your insides must look like after drinking/eating...so what I am finally figuring out is that those fruits (and I have been eating berries alot lately, as we live on a small farm and I grow raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, blackberries) and have much the same reaction as my son had to the blue dye...Prior to thinking about this connection, I had been to dr's and they had no idea how to help or why...asked standard questions and since I use only all natural, unscented, no dyes, products and the same ones for years...they did not know what to  suggest....no one ever mentioned possible allergies....so again, when I saw that there were foods with latex in them, I wanted to check it out, as this problem comes and goes and I think there is a link because I make fruit smoothies with some of these foods for my boys (good way to hide their supplements!) and for my husband and I and they almost always have banana and berries in them ...it would explain a lot if this is the connection...So I am going to bring this up to my ND and start keeping a food/drink log and  cross ref. it with any sx....Over here, the insurance companies do not always cover the allergy tests, so will have to check that out...as it is I am going for a 24 hour iodine test (not covered) and my boys had a lot of testing done that was not covered-but we got a lot of good information from it....so cost is also a factor...trying to eat healthy with organic foods and whole foods strains the budget a bit. Sigh....but a prayerfully, we are getting a little closer to answers and we are healthier than we have been-so there is progress!  Hoping you will also get some answers Teddy...I am glad you have a great allergist.  Finding someone over here with knowlege about wheat allergies has been tough...People tell you to just stay away from wheat...hmmmm...it's in everything! Same as milk (though my son has been DF for almost 10 years and I jumped on that one about a year ago when I began really reacting to lactose...) But the phenols and the salycilates (sp?) are another altogether....so I want some definitive testing for the foods...to find out which are IgA, IgE reactions....my sons will not sit still for the skin prick tests, bit there is a way you can do it through "stool" testing and I think that is what we will do next....at least myself and my youngest...my 18 yo refuses to change his diet "no matter what the health issues"...but he also has mild mental retardation, so he really doesn't understand what the long term effects are of those choices....If you read this far-thanks!   It helps to spell it all out and helps to organize the thoughts and plan sometimes I think.  Have a good night and take care Teddy.

Hi Hannah Smiley

You really all are having such a tough time of it health wise. It just isnt easy is it. Sometimes I wonder how I stay strong but then when I read what you are going through with the different children it makes me humble to think of myself. I always say that it is bad enough being an adult and coping with such issues and I always feel for children who are going through tough times health wise. We just wish we could take it all away from them and have it ourselves Sad

What is the thryoid supplement you take called Hannah? If you get a chance look on the salicylate sensitivity forum on the website just type in salicylate sensitivity and it will come up. It gives you lists of foods so you can look and see if these are the foodstuffs you/kids are eating and you might find a link to the sals. I am not saying that it will be sals just something to bear in mind. I hope that it isnt.

I find my intolerances cause me just as much difficultes as my allergies do the only thing is from my intolerances I dont get anaphylactic shock.

My sals intolerance causing terrible stomach cramps, diarrhea, sickness etc a long list of symptoms and the dreaded brain fog. I used to read the ss forum and think I wont evey get like that and now I find myself suffering from the dreaded brain fog. For me I find this difficult to deal with but sals wise I am doing amazingly and much healthier that way.

Just wish I could sort out all my other health issues as well.

I really feel for you and hope that by being able to chat to others on the forum it is of some help to you. Sometimes I just feel that no-one else understands what you are going through but on the forum I have made wonderful friends and I know if I am having a bad day I can come on here and someone will reply and someone out there understands you or at least can listen when you just want to vent off some steam.

So of course I managed to read to the end of your posting and I hope that you find some answers soon.

Like you say it is a giant jigsaw and it is trying to piece it all together when the pieces are so small it is difficult. The one good thing I learned from my sals forum is to keep a diary not just of food/drink intake but products used, aromas etc etc and I found that a great help to me trying to figure out what suits me and what doesnt. Again no two individuals are the same so what works for one person doesnt work for another.

Living on a farm sounds lovely, hard work I know but lovely surroundings to be in all the same.
Take care Hannah. Love to all the family
Teddy x Smiley
p.s. glad that you are able to loose the weight. Just look forward to when I can eventually get back to my little self!

Hi Everyone
I too have a wheat ontolerance aslong with yeast, sugar and lactose. I began sufferiing from stomach problems ,mainly IBS years ago. However, recently it escalated to acid reflux and pain in stomach under my ribs. I was put on omeprazole and treeated for helicobacter and thinfg improved for a while. Then they have gradually got worse and I went to Holland and Barrat for food insensitivities. They said to avoid all the above which I have. The weight dropped off slowly and in total 2 stones but my stomach problems haven't improved. The acid reflux has stopped and the presuure in the chest and the IBS has all but gone. However, the pain under my rib and a feeling as if something is moving along that part of your stomach (like when a baby moves when you are pregnant) refuse to go away. I am getting really fed up now but have been to a homeopath who has prescribed a course of treatment that I am 3 dyas into no changes yet. The course lasts nine days. Has anyone else suffered in this way and have they had results from homeopathic treatment?
I am also taking silicea, iron, vit c low acid, acidopholus and colloidial silver.
Thanks
Kathryn

Hi Kathyrn

Sorry to hear you are still having a tough time of it. I dont have any of the problems with wheat allergy or intolerance but I did have IBS for many years well that is what it was diagnosed as but it turns out it was salicylates intolerance.

Since starting my salicylate diet I am doing much better IBS symptom wise and no more migranes or sinus as it was all down to the salicylates in my diet. I do miss all my healthy fruits and vegs and I am on a very limited diet so that is why it is so confusing to be putting on more weight instead of losing it.

I know exactly the pain you are talking about under your ribs like when the baby kicks or sticks a fist up under your rib cage. I have had iodine tests done for this and nothing showed up so they named it idiopathic anaemia. I think that is just a name when they cant find out what it is. I have a large lump under my left rib cage which comes up like a big adult sized fist. It used to scare people but now I am just so used to this. The only thing I hate about it apart from the pain is that I cant wear nice bras so for years am only able to wear camisole tops as the underwire of the bra brought the lump out.

I just call it my lump and it has been a part of me so long I dont even talk about it anymore unless it is hurting me. I dont take anything for this and they never ever got to the bottom of it even although they can see it. Another one of life's mysteries. I had all sorts of xrays etc as well as iodine injected into me on a special machine. Cant remember name of it now as it was years ago but unfortunately my lump is still with me. I can only sleep on one side because of it and cannot sleep on my tummy as this brings it out.

I cant help with any advice or feedback on homeopathic treatment as it takes years to have an appointment here in UK and I cant afford to go privately.

Hope you get some changes and let us know how it goes for you with your latest treatment.
Take care
Teddy Smiley
